"This series started as an investigation of the source of the creative impulse. I was drawn to the day dreaming and imaginative play of our child selves. Each piece has started with an image that has struck me as capturing a glimpse of the spirit learning to navigating through a complex world. I have found these images speaking to me in both whispers and shouts, of the struggle to both know and reject the reality that surrounds them. In the process I have continued to juxtapose text as texture with the work, creating narratives of these ideals in our world."
"Working in oils and mixed media materials, allow me a great versatility with building images in new ways. Most of my work is done on wood panels or paper. The panels provide a solid working surface more suitable to the nature that some of the work attains through the layering process."
Stacey As Pritchard lives in Highlands, NJ at the northern part of the beach with her husband Al Pritchard and her two dogs. She graduated from high school in 1987 and then college, receiving a Bachelors of Art Degree from Ringling School of Art and Design, in 1995. If asked she will tell you she is from Texas, but in reality, was born in the small town of Portsmouth, Ohio in 1969, practically straddling the Mason Dixon Line.
She was raised in an environment that lead to a great interest in the subjective nature of memory, and story telling as a means of investigating the very humanity within us all. She currently paints, draws and occasionally sculpts out of one studio, while using the other as a silversmith and creating handcrafted sterling silver jewelry.
